British Rowing Sculling Festival returns to the National Water Sports Centre this weekend

The fifth instalment of the British Rowing Sculling Festival will take place this weekend on Saturday, 19 and Sunday, 20 August at the National Water Sports Centre, Nottingham.

This Saturday and Sunday, the British Rowing Sculling Festival will return to the National Water Sports Centre for the fifth time.

Over 120 rowers will be competing across four different events: men’s and women’s beginners and men’s and women’s main events.

Bristol University, Agecroft, Nottingham and Reading rowing clubs will each be sending large teams to Nottingham, whilst another 42 clubs from across the UK who will be represented at the festival.

Current GB Rowing Team athletes Karen Bennett (2013), Tom Ford (2014) and Fiona Gammond (2015) have all competed in previous editions of the sculling festival.

The festival will open with time trials and skills testing on Saturday morning before Day One concludes with 250m races. The racing will then continue into Sunday with 1,000m and 2,000m events. The 2017 British Rowing Sculling Festival winners will be calculated from a total points score from all of the events across the weekend.  Six titles are up for grabs in the Main Event: men’s and women’s seniors, U23s and J18s, whilst in the Beginners’ Event men’s and women’s titles will be decided.

Commenting on the event, World Class Start rower and 2014 Sculling Festival sculler Jon Stimpson, said: “The Sculling Festival is a good way to end the season as it’s so different to other events, with skills and sprint racing all part of the programme. It should be a great weekend.”
