Rowing Tour Affiliation
Tours that choose to affiliate to British Rowing receive Public Liability cover through British Rowing’s insurance provider
Tours can choose to affiliate with British Rowing in a similar manner to competitions. The primary advantage of affiliating a tour with British Rowing is that it will receive Public Liability and Employers Liability cover through British Rowing’s insurance provider, Marsh Sport, provided the tour complies with the affiliation requirements set out below. These requirements ensure that the risk involved is covered by policy.
For details on the insurance coverage available to British Rowing-affiliated tours, please refer to the ’Registered Non-Competitive Events’ section on the Marsh Sport insurance hub.
To affiliate with British Rowing, tours must meet the following conditions, as agreed with the insurers:
- The tour affiliation application must be submitted at least six weeks in advance of the date that the tour is planned to start. We cannot guarantee that the necessary requirements will be met to ensure insurance cover is granted if an application is made within six weeks of the planned tour start date.
- All individuals participating (in a boat) in the tour must hold one of the following British Rowing memberships; Row, Race, Coach or Umpire, or hold a Scottish & Overseas licence with British Rowing.
- The tour organising committee must agree to promote RowSafe adherence by touring participants.
- A route plan must be submitted by the tour organising committee.
- A Tour Safety Adviser must be appointed who shall be responsible for the submission of an Event Safety Plan and Safety Rules together with associated risk assessments and Event Emergency Response Plan in compliance with the guidance in RowSafe in addition to the Welfare Plan to the Regional Rowing Safety Adviser in the region(s) in which the tour is due to take place a minimum of four weeks before the proposed tour date.
- The tour organiser must supply British Rowing with a list of individuals who are attending the tour and their membership numbers or Scottish & Overseas licence one week before the tour is due to take place. If you use BROE2 to manage the participants, this is done automatically, and you will not need to take further action. Otherwise, the list should be emailed to [email protected].
- A tour will be provisionally affiliated with British Rowing after submitting an application to affiliate and receiving approval from the British Rowing Membership and Community Team. The tour will then be listed on the British Rowing Competition and Tour Calendar page. Full approval of the Tour will be provided in writing once all the above conditions have been met.
The cost to affiliate a tour with British Rowing is £205 a day (VAT exempt) from 1 April 2024, which is the same as for British Rowing affiliated competitions.
