Athlete Director to the Board of British Rowing

British Rowing is looking to appoint an Athlete Director to the Board of British Rowing. The appointment process is by way of an election and British Rowing welcomes nominations from all those eligible. The full process and eligibility criteria are set out below.

Eligibility to stand as a candidate

To be eligible to stand for this role a candidate must be a member or former member of the GB Rowing Team who is currently competing for the GB Rowing Team or competed for the GB Rowing Team in the most recent Olympiad (being the four-year cycle, in which the first year is the calendar year in which the summer Olympic Games are due to take place).

Therefore, any athlete who has been a member of the GB Rowing Team from 1st January 2016 up to and including the Tokyo Olympic or Paralympic Games is eligible to stand as a candidate.

Eligibility to nominate and/or vote for a candidate

To be eligible to nominate and/or vote for a candidate a person must be a current member of the GB Rowing Team, being those athletes who have represented Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the most recent World Rowing (previously FISA) World Rowing Championships or, in an Olympic/Paralympic year, at the Olympic or Paralympic Games.

Therefore, any athlete who was a member of the GB Rowing Team at the Tokyo Olympic or Paralympic Games is eligible to propose, second and vote for a candidate.

Nominations

If you would like to stand for this position, please contact Richard Nunn by email at [email protected] who will provide further details of the nomination process.

The closing date for the receipt of nominations is 5pm on Friday 15th July 2022.

Next Steps

If at the deadline nominations are received for only one eligible candidate, that person will be appointed to the position of Athlete Director.  If nominations for more than one candidate are received an election will be held and all those eligible to vote will be notified of the process. The results will be communicated in the first instance to the candidates, the GB Rowing Team and then more widely to the rowing community after the Board meeting at which the Director is appointed.

Role Description

A role description for the Athlete Director is saved here.

If you would like any further information about the roles or duties of a Board Director, or specific information about the Athlete Director’s role please contact [email protected]

Important Note: Directors have legal duties under the Companies Act 2006 and nominees should be aware of the role and responsibilities of becoming a director. Nominees must not be disqualified from acting in such a role.

The Athlete Director is not a direct representative of the GB Rowing Team or the athletes on the Board but rather brings their experience of elite sport and the GB Rowing Team to help guide the strategic thinking and monitoring of objectives for the benefit of the organisation.

Application Dates: From Wednesday 6th July 2022 to Friday 15th July 2022
