British Rowing – Beach Sprint Pathway Coach (North East)

The announcement of the inclusion of the Beach Sprint format in the LA2028 Olympic Games has provided an exciting opportunity to develop a new talent pathway, which unlocks opportunities for athletes with the potential to develop into a new generation of Olympic rower.

The British Rowing Pathway programmes seek to prepare athletes for all Olympic formats; Sculling, Sweep and Beach Sprints. This post is positioned to support the region in identifying and developing athletes with potential across each of the Olympic disciplines, with a particular emphasis on preparing athletes with the skills to succeed in the Beach Sprints.

The post-holder will play a key role in developing a Pathway for rowers from the North East with future potential to excel in the Beach Sprint format. The programme will involve creating a network of clubs within the region (both coastal and inland based), where rowers from all backgrounds, with potential for the Beach Sprint format, can be identified and provided with opportunities to supplement their existing club training with Beach Sprint specific sessions, with the goal of developing to international standard over an appropriate time period.

We’re looking for a coach with the skill and motivation to identify and support future Olympians along with the ability to adapt and learn to deliver an athlete development programme within a new and exciting rowing format.

  • Supporting partner clubs and their coaches to introduce new participants to the sport, particularly targeting those from communities who may not traditionally take part in the sport of rowing, and provide a suitable base level of training and support to those who have talent/performance aspirations
  • Supporting individual athletes through the GB Beach selection process as appropriate, including supporting those athletes at international competitions where selected to do so
  • Working with the England Pathway manager to support the development of the England team for the Home International Beach Sprints Regatta
  • Working with the Olympic Pathway Manager to support the delivery of the GB Beach Sprint programme, including training days, selection trials, training camps and competitions as appropriate.
