British Rowing – Community Development Officer

As a British Rowing Community Development Officer, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the capacity and sustainability of the community of rowing clubs across England.

You will work directly with clubs and a range of rowing organisations to improve their programs, and overall operations, ensuring they are well-equipped to attract and retain members, and to foster a positive and inclusive rowing environment either via indoor, on the river, or coastal rowing.

The role will initially focus on supporting adaptive rowing initiatives, learn to row schemes and wider club development programmes.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Club Development: Provide tailored sport development support and advice to rowing clubs to help them develop sustainably alongside the Head of Community.
  • Membership Growth: Assist clubs of all shapes and sizes to increase participation and membership across all age groups and demographics.
  • Program Enhancement: Support clubs and groups in creating and enhancing new programs and targeted project rollout through indoor, on the river, or coastal opportunities including competitive, adaptive rowing, events, and recreational opportunities.
  • Community Engagement: Foster relationships with clubs and multiple stakeholder organisations to promote and engage more people to the sport of rowing.
  • Learn to Row Schemes: Supporting clubs with the delivery of the national Learn to Row offer, with a big focus on participant retention solutions.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Track and report on club development activities and outcomes, using data to inform future strategies, support and future focus.
  • Fundraising and Facilities: work closely with colleagues experienced in facility development, and fundraising.
  • Provide hands-on support to the Head of Community and Community Manager on their programmes and initiatives, including involvement in key British Rowing events, activations and activities as well as enabling knowledge sharing on club activities.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Proven track record in sports development, including program management and community engagement, preferably in rowing.
  • Be motivated in wanting to drive the growth and development of rowing opportunities and engagement across England.
  • Have a proven track record of creating positive relationships within volunteer, partner and different club organisations.

Desirable Criteria

  • Showcase experience of an innovative sport development mindset that has or will help the sport to continue to grow participation.
  • Experience in working with volunteer and community groups to achieve key outcomes and goals.
  • Experience engaging and providing access to new opportunities to people with health conditions or impairments.

Salary: £25,000-30,000, dependent on experience and hours.

Type: 32 to 40-hour work week available / to be discussed.
