British Rowing – Governance and Integrity Lead
British Rowing is undertaking a significant change management programme including building a team to ensure that British Rowing continues to govern to the highest possible standards in the future.
The Governance and Integrity Lead will be responsible for working with the CEO to deliver that change and will be responsible for providing an extensive range of corporate governance support to British Rowing, leading the operational governance of the organisation (including some company secretariat activities) acting as the primary contact for integrity and disciplinary and grievance matters and leading British Rowing’s Anti-Doping strategy.
What you’ll be doing
Governance
- Deliver a change management programme that will evolve British Rowing’s current governance structure.
- Deliver a range of high-quality company governance services to British Rowing, its Board, sub committees, panels Task and Finish groups as required.
- Working with the relevant chairs of the boards and committees to plan the annual calendar of work for boards and committees.
- Oversee and deliver the provision of governance support to the regions of British Rowing including guidance and support to volunteers and affiliated clubs/competitions on the development and implementation of good governance practices
- Plan and coordinate key meetings including the Annual General Meeting overseeing any voting processes; write the Annual Governance Statement and approvals.
Integrity, Grievances and Anti-Doping
- Oversee the management of disciplinary and grievance processes within all aspects of the sport from the GB Rowing team to the British Rowing community.
- Work with the Disciplinary & Grievance panel to manage and resolve cases.
- Be the primary point of contact for key stakeholders such as Interpol, the IOC and UK Sport on integrity matters.
- Lead and ensure a strategic oversight of Integrity Policy and key procedures (and implementation).
- Lead the organisation’s Anti-Doping strategy and implementation of educating and training requirements on an annual basis.
- Ensure compliance and communication of changes to the WADA Code, Prohibited List and other related policy updates.
- Handle allegations and in conjunction and with relevant stakeholders internally and externally coordinate the organisation responses.

As our Governance and Integrity lead, you will be an expert in managing stakeholders at every level of the organisation and sport. A key leadership role will require resilience and diplomacy to work across the organisation to ensure the highest level of governance. You will be a confident team player, with the demonstrated ability to drive projects forward and you will possess impeccable personal and communication skills.
Essential Criteria
- ICSA part or fully qualified (or other professional qualification if relevant experience can be demonstrated).
- Confident stakeholder management and experience of working with board/C-Suite stakeholders.
- Collaborating with peers and sharing knowledge.
- Ability to work independently, under pressure and to tight deadlines, managing competing priorities.
- Ability to design and implement new ways of working, based on company secretarial and corporate governance best practice.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- People Management experience
Desirable Criteria
- Understanding of sport sector or not for profit organisations.
