British Rowing – Masters Championships Deputy Chair (Volunteer Role)

This is an opportunity to gain some hands-on experience in the fields of sporting events organisation in the run up to and during the British Rowing Masters Championships.

Role Purpose

The British Rowing Masters Championships (BRMC) is one of the largest regattas in the rowing calendar with up to 850 crews in recent years held over 2 days at Holme Pierrepont Country Park in the middle of June (Saturday/Sunday 15-16 June this year).

The Championship aims to provide racing for the best Masters crews in the county in all boat classes as well as provide a pathway for rowers who have taken up the sport in later years.

This is an opportunity to gain some hands-on experience in the fields of sporting events organisation in the run up to and during the British Rowing Masters Championships. The successful application will work with the BRMC Organising Committee (OC) made up of a mixture of volunteers and British Rowing staff and assist the OC Chair and take a lead in the competitor experience. The BRMC require approximately 60 volunteers to help run the event. This volunteer role is the ideal opportunity for a current student, a graduate or someone wishing to get involved in sports events.

No formal qualifications are required however applicants should have a positive approach, excellent verbal communication skills and a belief in the importance of competitive sport.

Responsibilities

  • Support the BRMC Organising Committee Chair and deputise is his or her absence
  • Support the OC in delivering a well-run Championships
  • Take a specific lead in competitor experience at the Championships to ensure that the competitors and spectators have an enjoyable and  rewarding experience. This involves among other things registration, commentary, merchandising, catering, protocol.

Additional Information

Although this is a voluntary role, reasonable expenses will be paid as per the British Rowing expenses policy, and accommodation provided during the event. The successful candidate must be available for the weekend of the Championships.
