Cambridge 99 – Senior squad coach

Cambridge 99 are looking for an experienced coach for their senior squads.

Cambridge 99 is a ‘town’ club with a large boathouse situated among the many college boat clubs in the centre of Cambridge. We aim to provide the right level of support and equipment for everyone from learn to row and social crews up to those training for Henley Royal and Women’s Henley. We have around 200 active members.

We think that to continue the development of the most committed, talented athletes in the senior squads, the time is right to bring in an experienced, paid coach.

This coach will work with the club performance director and squad captains and be responsible for:

  • Helping design and deliver the 2024/5 training plan
  • Coaching a mix of crews both on and off the water for up to 8 sessions per week
  • Helping select the crews that race at the normal mix of UK head races and regattas
  • Helping develop the clubs less experienced coaches, mainly through them joining you on the towpath.

Our training sessions are spread through the week before and after normal office hours and before noon on both days at the weekend, so this role would probably fit alongside a ‘normal’ job in Cambridge or a University College coaching role.

Our expectations of the successful candidate:

  • At least 2 years of coaching experience with crews racing at a good level – eg top 30 HORR / WeHORR.
  • Good references from clubs you’ve worked with before
  • Prepared to be part of the overall coaching and development team, not just coaching
  • Either already UKCC Rowing level 2 qualified or keen to do the qualification (which we will part fund).

We are open to splitting the role into two, a men’s coach and a women’s coach, each with around 4 sessions per week. Please indicate your preference when you apply.

Payment will be per session, with rates agreed depending on experience.

Please send a short CV and covering letter to [email protected]. Interviews will be in August and we would like the role to start in early September.

Salary: Paid per session, with rates to be agreed

Type: Part time, hours to be agreed

Application Dates: From Monday 29th July 2024 to Saturday 17th August 2024
