Cambridge University – Lightweight Women’s Coach (part time)

The Women’s Lightweight Coach will join the coaching team at CUBC and report directly to CUBC’s Women’s Chief Coach, Patrick Ryan. The candidate will be both enthusiastic and motivated, and will have relevant experience as a coach or as a top-level athlete.

The Women’s Lightweight Coach holds a key supporting role in preparing CUBC’s Lightweight Squad for the Lightweight Boat Race. This may lead the role to be extended to summer regattas such as BUCS, Henley Women’s Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta. The role includes specific responsibility for the coaching of the Women’s Lightweight Crew.

Full details are contained in the Job Description which can be found here.

The appointment is a contracted role, approximately 10-14 hours a week, based in Cambridge, United Kingdom and coaching from CUBC’s Ely Boathouse. The contract will commence immediately the successful applicant is available, and continue until 21st March. An extension to the contract may be discussed dependent on performance.

Candidates interested in the post may contact Patrick Ryan at [email protected], in order to initiate an informal, confidential discussion. Patrick will be available from Wednesday 14th December.

Formal applications, including a CV and covering letter are to be made in writing to Alister Taylor, Executive Secretary of the CUBC, by email at [email protected] or by post at The Goldie Boathouse, Kimberley Road, CAMBRIDGE, CB4 1HJ, United Kingdom by 6pm UK time on Monday 9th January. Interviews and the hire of an appropriate candidate may take place before the advertised closing date.

Candidates must be able to work in the UK and the following competencies are desirable:

  • Understanding of, and empathy, with the CUBC system.
  • Strong personal credibility and integrity: a figure for whom the athletes will want to win.
  • Expert knowledge of the Tideway or competing in tidal conditions.
  • Relevant success as a coach, rower or cox at the highest level.
  • Current driver’s licence – ideally to include B+E towing endorsement

The Club seeks to have the successful applicant take their place with CUBC immediately on their appointment, so that they will maximise their support of the Lightweight program’s preparation for the 2023 Lightweight Boat Races.

An appropriate compensation package will be agreed with the successful applicant.

Application Dates: From Wednesday 14th December 2022 to Monday 9th January 2023
