Dragon School – Head of Sculling
We are seeking to appoint a Head of Sculling for Dragon School to start as early as possible in the 2024 Autumn Term. This is an exciting opportunity for a rowing / sculling specialist to devise and develop a sculling programme at a leading co-educational boarding school.
The Head of Sculling will enjoy considerable autonomy, working with the Director of Sport and other senior colleagues to develop a vision for Sculling at Dragon School Prep, which covers day and boarding pupils for years 4-8. The post presents a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to create and grow a programme that aligns with the Dragon’s sporting ethos is passionate about participation and championing performance.
The following are an indication of the type of responsibilities and duties included within the role of Head of Sculling at Dragon:
Strategic and Planning
- Develop and refine a strategic plan for the growth of Sculling at Dragon which encompasses long, medium and short-term goals.
- Coach regular, high-quality and safe rowing training sessions.
- Exemplify, in own practice, the skills of teaching and learning necessary for the school to meet its ambitions in this key area.
- Work with external rowing coaches to ensure that our pupils benefit from well-organised and high-quality provision.
- Liaise with the Director of Sport security checks and invoicing of any external coaches.
- Organise after school training sessions as appropriate.
- Liaise with the Director of Sport to co-ordinate regatta dates within the school calendar.
- Organise the yearly Dragon Regatta in the Summer Term.
- Arrange registration of athletes and school with British Rowing.
Health and Safety
- Follow the School’s Health and Safety procedures across all aspects of their work.
- Complete the online annual British Rowing Safety Audit.
- Source and arrange the purchase of relevant equipment, keep inventory records and logs of safety checks.
- Ensure that all accidents, incidents and near misses are reported via the School’s accident reporting processes.
- Complete and maintain relevant risk assessments for all aspects of the rowing programme.
This is a part-time role, working 8 hours per week Monday to Friday, with the potential to extend these hours depending on the candidate. There may be occasions where you might be required at a weekend. The role reports to the Director of Sport.

Salary: An hourly rate will be paid dependent on experience and expertise
