Furnivall Sculling Club – Head Coach

Furnivall is a vibrant club with 125 years of history based in Hammersmith. The club has a reputation for offering a competitive and inclusive environment and currently has a large and engaged membership making it a really exciting time to join us. The club took two women’s boats to HWR in 2022 with the intention to build on this success next year.

We are seeking a head coach to develop an ambitious and thriving membership across both our men’s and women’s senior squads in both sweep rowing and sculling. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing training programmes for both squads
  • Coaching water sessions on the Tideway
  • Leading land training sessions at our boathouse in Hammersmith
  • Leading our team of volunteer coaches
  • Working with the squad captains to help the club grow and build on frequent successes at regattas and head races over the last few years.

Preferred experience:

  • Minimum 2 years coaching experience
  • Good understanding of rowing and safety on the Tideway
  • Launch driving (however we could support you in gaining this)

The role is anticipated to comprise approximately 12hrs per week and remuneration will be provided in line with experience. A breakdown of a typical week is shown below for reference:

  • Two weekday evening training sessions (~2hrs each)
  • Two weekend morning sessions (~3hrs each)
  • Planning/admin (~2hrs per week)

We are looking for a coach who shares our vision to help the club grow and support all squad members, from novices through to the higher end of the mens and women’s squads, in reaching their maximum potential. If you have a passion for coaching and want to help us continue the development of the squad then please contact the Club Captain, Christina Thorp, on [email protected].

Application Dates: From Friday 12th August 2022 to Wednesday 31st August 2022
