GB Rowing Team – National Training Centre Groundskeeper and Facilities Assistant

The GB Rowing Team is looking for a Groundskeeper and Facilities Assistant to complete the practical tasks required to maintain the National Training Centre (Sherriff’s Boathouse, Redgrave Pinsent Rowing Lake, Caversham) as a World Class training facility for its Olympic, Paralympic and Pathway rowers while also supporting the smooth running of rowing operations.
This role will incorporate the upkeep of the building and grounds, most importantly the rowing course and lake itself. Although the successful applicant may not currently possess all of the required skills they will be practical and hands-on individuals with a willingness to learn and strong pride in their work.
This role will suit someone who lives locally to the NTC and is willing to be flexible with their hours. Arriving early to open the site, starting later to facilitate closing the site (around 6pm), or completing lake tasks around rowing periods are examples as required. The successful candidate must be able to commit to working occasional weekends as and when required.
Key Responsibilities
Site Work
- Maintain the Redgrave Pinsent Rowing Lake as a world class lake for rowing training through:Implementation of a weed management strategy including preventative dyeing and the cutting of any weed growths using an aquatic weed cutter.
- Cleaning and alignment of the buoys that make up the rowing course including any maintenance of the cables to which these are attached.
- Mowing, hedge cutting, weeding and tending to the site as necessary to ensure an optimal coaching environment and a shared pride in the NTC.
Boathouse Duties
- Complete the practical tasks required for the safe and smooth running of the NTC, including but not limited to: Security – opening and closing the site as necessary
- Safety – provide cover, undertaking training where necessary to fulfil the roles of First Aider, Fire Warden, On water launch safety cover.
A bit about you
You’ll be a person with a can-do attitude who takes pride in your work. You are also able to work independently to a high degree, but also do well as part of a team. It would also be great if you have a RYA Level 2, Trailer Driving Licence and experience of tractor driving and hedge trimming, but this is not essential.
Salary: £25,000-£30,000
Type: Full time - 40 hours per week
