Globe RC – Coach

Globe RC is one of the fastest growing rowing clubs in London with increasing ambition.

We’re looking to hire at least 1 coach, qualified or not, to join our existing team. Although focused on our junior squad, ideally we’d like someone eager to working with our seniors as well.
We also welcome volunteer coaches looking to contribute to a growing and successful club who may wish to add to their “CV”.

In the 2022 season, Globe juniors won at Henley Women’s Regatta with other strong results at the British Junior Championships (Silvers and Golds), GB Trials and other regattas. 2023 is Globe’s 100th anniversary and we’re aiming for a season to rival it launching into our second century and beyond with an already good result from HWR in the Chairman’s Trophy.

What the selected coach will be responsible for:

  • Working with our Director of Rowing and junior coaching/ support team to coach and develop young athletes aged 12+ across all levels from novices through to high performance racing crews (focus will be on the latter).
  • Coach both on water and land sessions, ensuring safe practice, athlete welfare within the parameters of the wider training programme.
  • Reporting any equipment issues or faults (ideally the new coach will be keen to get involved in maintenance as well).
  • Staying up to date with training trends and British Rowing guidelines.
  • Contribute to training planning, providing ideas and suggestions where appropriate.
  • Attending races in a coaching capacity assisting with preparation and onsite coaching.

What Globe is looking for:

  • An individual with Rowing expertise whether purely through prior coaching or ideally having rowed themselves at various levels (junior competition experience a bonus)
  • Someone with coaching experience in Rowing or other sports (only if this person is an ex-rower themselves)
  • An enthusiastic person who delivers coaching with energy and drive
  • A coach open to continuous learning and development.

What we’re offering:

  • An average of 12 – 15 hours a week minimum (12 if just juniors, up to 15 if also coaching some senior sessions) – this can rapidly increase out of term times and during months with multiple competitions.
  • £12.5/hour unqualified, £15/hour with level 2 or more – these are starting salaries, open to negotiation.
  • An opportunity to work with an established coaching team, including but not limited to our Director of Rowing Maurice Coughlan who has an extensive CV including Beijing 2008 Paralympics, Junior World Championship athletes etc.
  • The club will fund qualifications, including but not limited to British Rowing Level 2 & 3 with all the required additional courses (e.g.: Strength and Conditioning, First aid etc.)
  •  An increase in hours is also possible with long term potential whether with or outside of the club (previous assistants have gone on to full time jobs with schools and other clubs).
  • There will also be opportunity to top up pay with Learn To Rows which we’d pay a premium rate for, regatta days, training camps in holidays and private lessons organised through the club.

2023 is Globe’s 100th year, our first century was just the beginning! We’ve big goals and are looking to ensure we have the personnel to help deliver them.

To apply please email [email protected] with a cover letter or CV detailing your experience and situation. We’ll arrange a meeting with our Junior Co-ordinator and Captains as well as our Director of Rowing.

Application Dates: From Monday 19th June 2023 to Friday 7th July 2023
