Home International Rowing Regatta 2022
General Information
England Rowing is seeking Organising Committee members to support the organisation of the 2022 Home International Rowing Regatta, which will be hosted by England on Saturday 23 July at the London Regatta Centre.
In line with the ethos of the event, England Rowing would like to use their turn of hosting the event as a development opportunity not only for rowers, but for all supporting roles, including coaches, team staff, umpires and organising committee members.
About the Home International Rowing Regatta
The Home International Rowing Regatta is an historic annual competition taking place on the fourth weekend of July. The event involving the four ‘Home Nations’ of England, Scotland, Wales & Ireland dates back to 1962. Every race counts towards combined team trophies for Junior Women, Junior Men, Senior Women and Senior Men.
A new racing format, announced in 2020, means rowers will have a minimum of two races, with the majority racing three times. Racing takes place over 2,000m for all boat classes, with the 4x and 8+ racing a second time over 500m.
The Roles
We are looking to appoint a total of six people to the HIRR 2022 Organising Committee: a Safety Adviser; a Safeguarding & Welfare Officer; and four others for less specific duties. The areas of responsibility for each member of the Organising Committee is not fixed but across the team, the following areas will be covered:
- Event logistics (catering, accommodation, volunteer welfare)
- Volunteers (recruitment, management, equipment)
- Communications (social media, commentary, ceremonies)
- Event management (venue liaison, temporary infrastructure, security, cleaning, parking)
- Race management (schedule, timing, results, umpires)
Those appointed will assist in the organisation and delivery of this international standard multi-lane regatta, working with the Match Director and other relevant parties.
Individuals who are keen to develop themselves or further their volunteer experience, but who have little or no experience of running rowing events at a national level, are strongly encouraged to apply. Volunteering as part of the HIRR 2022 Organising Committee will be excellent experience for those looking to undertake other national roles or roles within clubs or regional events in the future.
We welcome all applications but are particularly interested to hear from those who are underrepresented in the sports volunteer cohort in terms of age, race and disability.
Responsibilities
All Organising Committee members are expected to attend fortnightly committee meetings between the date of appointment and the date of the event. All meetings will be held virtually. Tasks will be allocated to each member but it is likely that these will only take up a few hours per month.
All Organising Committee members will be required to attend the event on Saturday 23 July; additional attendance on Friday 22 July is preferable but not essential.
