Love Rowing – Trustee

Love Rowing (British Rowing’s Charitable Foundation) is a young charity in the process of recruiting new Trustees as part of its exciting growth.

Reports to: Love Rowing Board of Trustees

Remuneration: Voluntary (in line with Charity Commission requirements). Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Location: Meetings are generally held at British Rowing Headquarters (Hammersmith), project venues nationally and/or online.

Time commitment: At least five Board meetings per year plus informal meetings on an ad hoc basis, including participation in sub-committees. Attendance at 1-2 fundraising events a year is expected. As a young charity, our trustees play a critical hands-on role across the organisation throughout the year.

As a Trustee you will join an experienced and enthusiastic group of Trustees at an important moment for the charity collaborating to set the strategy and direction of the Charity whilst providing oversight and support on project delivery to the Foundation Director. Our Trustees are essential in supporting the Foundation Director with practical help across fundraising, governance, project management, publicity, impact measurement and finance.

We welcome applications from individuals with plenty of enthusiasm and a range of professional and other relevant experience. We are particularly interested in:

  • Skills at the forefront of diversity and inclusion (D&I) to support us to reach those with the most to gain from access to rowing
  • All-round charity experience, willing to roll their sleeves up and support the Foundation Director to ensure a well-run operation as new opportunities arise
  • Skills in fundraising, marketing and/or previous Treasurer experience to take the charity’s effectiveness to the next level.

Who we are

Love Rowing’s mission is to open the doors of our sport much wider and bring the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of rowing to more people than ever before.  We have already seen incredible impact since the charity was launched with successful projects running around the UK and our ambition is to deepen that impact further. Our impact is accomplished through raising funds to provide grants, guidance and support to schools, rowing clubs and community organisations. Creating accessible and inclusive rowing programmes for school pupils, people with disabilities and other currently underrepresented groups.

There are currently three target areas:

  • Schools – Supporting existing school and community rowing clubs to work with new schools, reaching more pupils around the country, focusing on those from low socio- economic backgrounds.
  • Adaptive – Supporting the development and delivery of high quality and accessible rowing programmes for people with disabilities.
  • Community – Delivering inclusive rowing activity in community settings, in partnership with trusted local partners and establishing pathway opportunities through local rowing clubs.
