Molesey Boat Club – Deputy Head Junior Coach

Salary Range : £17k – 24k p.a.,  depending on experience

Hours : typically 35-40 hours per week including ten coached sessions, but these may vary depending on the time of year.

Summary

Molesey Boat Club are looking for an ambitious Deputy Head Junior Coach to join its dynamic coaching team. The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for a large group of J14-15 year old rowers, ensuring that their early years of rowing create a foundation that enables them to fulfil their potential in the sport.  In addition to the leadership role with younger athletes, there will be the opportunity to assist the Head Junior Coach in the coaching of athletes at J16-J18 level looking to perform at local, national and international level.

Outside of coaching, the role includes planning, equipment repairs and other duties around the club.  The appointment is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

This will come with a significant amount of autonomy and responsibility and is an excellent opportunity for a session coach to step up to a leadership role.

About the programme

The Junior Programme at Molesey Boat Club welcomes juniors starting in their third year (year 9) at secondary school through to 18 years old, and is designed to enable each athlete to progress to their personal best. Molesey Boat Club is committed to continuing to build upon the fantastic success that the Junior Programme has achieved over the past few years. Overall, the programme is composed of approximately ninety boys and girls, who are coached by the Head Junior Coach, their deputy and a number of paid session coaches and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the J14 & J15 year groups including designing and delivering training and session plans, crew formation, and technical development with the overall direction of the Head Junior Coach.
  • Assisting in the overall delivery of the junior programme, with an emphasis on developing athletes throughout their junior rowing career.
  • Assist the Head Junior Coach in developing athletes targeting national events and selection for Great Britain Junior Teams.
  • Lead the recruitment of novice juniors through the club’s successful Learn to Row programmes and through our schools community outreach endeavours.
  • Head the maintenance of the MBC junior and senior fleet, repairing and rigging as necessary.

Required Skills and Qualifications 

  • Experience of working in a club/university/school programme.
  • Coaching qualification (minimum: UKCC Level 2 or international equivalent).
  • Full driving  licence (preferably with the ability to tow trailers).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desirable Skills

  • RYA Powerboat Level 2 or international equivalent
  • Educated to Degree level
  • Strength and Conditioning qualifications
  • Minor equipment repair skills
