Radley College Boat Club – Rowing Coach
Radley College Boat Club is renowned for its excellence in rowing, consistently achieving top results at premier events such as the Schools’ Head, National Schools’ Regatta, and Henley Royal Regatta across all age groups. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Rowing Coach to continue and build on this tradition of success.
The successful candidate will focus primarily on coaching one of the specific year groups, most likely J15 or J16, and will also potentially support the senior boys through the GB Trials process.
The Rowing Coach will look to support the senior squad through the Michaelmas term and then take control of running a year group from January through until the start of July. There may also be coaching required at GB Trials or GB vs France beyond the end of term. We have a proud history of international representation beyond the school, most notably with three current Olympians who will race in Paris 2024 and two current boys who became Junior World Champions last year in the Men’s Eight. Success is not just seen through medals at junior level but by boys continuing to enjoy the sport well beyond Radley.
Radley College offers outstanding training facilities, including a picturesque 6 km stretch of the Thames, a top-tier fleet of boats, eleven coaching launches, a rowing tank, an ergo room, and a strength and conditioning centre.
The Rowing Coach will be a very good technical coach with an excellent understanding of the rowing stroke and planning a training programme. They will be expected to fully buy into the ethos of sport at the College, which emphasizes the values of sportsmanship and encourages widespread participation as well as the pursuit of extensive success at elite school level. They will work closely with Sam Townsend, Master in Charge of rowing, to deliver this provision to the whole of their squad, with specific emphasis on the top crew of that year group.
The hours for this role are undefined but anticipated to be 20-25 hours per week. This will fluctuate during busy regatta weeks. The Rowing Coach will need to be available for camps throughout the academic year and all races including weekends.
We offer a highly competitive salary, along with a number of staff benefits.
The deadline for applications is 12 noon, Thursday, 4 July 2024 with interviews planned for Monday, 22 July 2024.
If you would like to have a chat about the post, or ask any questions, please contact the Master in Charge of Rowing, Sam Townsend ([email protected]).
