Royal Holloway Students’ Union – Rowing Coach
Description
Royal Holloway Rowing Club has previously acted as both a recreational and competitive club, predominantly competing at BUCS competitions and taking crews to Henley Qualifiers. We have a variety of experienced rowers and coxswains, ranging from complete novices to students who represent their countries nationally. Although Covid-19 has affected our training schedule, in a ‘normal’ year we aim to train on the water at least 2 times a week, as well as have 2 indoor morning sessions a week.
Whilst having previously boated from Staines Boat Club we are now looking to move to another boat club based in Chertsey. Here, we hope to continue our previous training schedule, and given the number of novice members, are flexible to utilize either sweep or scull boats.
Applicants must be able to work with the University schedule and be in attendance at all designated training sessions and matches as agreed. We are looking for a candidate with a RYA Level 2 Powerboat certification, with experience of coaching a novice rowing team, a good skill set and being able to provide constructive criticism.
The post holder will be expected to devise and implement a training programme in conjunction with the club committee, working to develop the club’s performance throughout the season. We need someone who is committed and willing to formulate a good relationship with the club to achieve their best.
Duties:
- To attend 2 water sessions a week (either alongside the bank by bicycle, or on a safety launch)
- To attend competitions throughout the academic year, likely to be BUCS fixtures (indoor and water)
- To provide opportunities for all players within the club to develop
Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate:
- Previous Rowing coach experience, preferable with experience coaching novice crews
- Affiliation to British Rowing
- First Aid certification
- RYA Level 2 Powerboat certification
- Ability to coordinate a training plan for members to follow outside of water sessions (e.g. gym and erg schedule
All candidates will be required to supply two references, at least one of which must be of a professional context, and evidence of qualifications and public liability insurance.
