Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club – Rowing Coach II

The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club is looking for a high calibre individual to fill the position of Rowing Coach II. This position will report directly to the Rowing and Paddle Sports Manager.

This position will be part of the core rowing coach team at the club’s Middle Island Water Sports Training Centre. The team delivers coaching and programmes to a wide range of rowers including Adults, Juniors, Corporates, Schools and in addition, supports race day management during regattas. Coaches will from time to time be needed to coach at the Club’s other three locations. The role is diverse and requires a high degree of integrity and strong self-management.

Coach Duties:

  • Assist with the core coaching role for Adult Novice, Youth Development, Schools Rowing, Holiday camps and private lessons at Middle Island.
  • Assist with other coaching programmes as needed including Adult rowing at other locations such as Kellett Island, Shatin and Shelter Cove.
  • Active involvement in course programme development across all areas.
  • Active involvement in improving safety protocols and other club safety policies relating to areas such as weather and safety boat driving.
  • To roster, manage and mentor junior and part-time Rowing Coaches. Provide direction, leadership and motivation to the team.
  • Co-ordinate with the Rowing Office team in providing updated reports on attendance numbers and duty hours of part time coaches.
  • Actively promote the best interests of RHKYC Rowing with external parties, members and participants through relationship management.
  • Assist with planning and execution of RHKYC Rowing and Paddle Sports regattas and competitions. Expected to join club teams travelling to overseas regattas from time to time.
  • Assist during race days including boat preparation and mark laying.
  • Along with the rest of the rowing coach team, take part in repair and maintenance work including maintenance days, damage reporting, basic repair work and co-ordination with the Club’s Boatyard team for repair work.
  • To perform such other duties as may be reasonably requested from time to time by the Rowing & Paddle Sports Manager and Head of Rowing Operations.

Requirements:

  • Recognized rowing coaching qualification (at least HKCRA/ UKCC Level 1 or equivalent).
  • Over 5 years’ rowing experience at a high level (high school, university or club).
  • Over 3 years’ coaching experience (university, juniors and novices an advantage).
  • Willing to work on weekends, holidays and early mornings.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English. Spoken Chinese or Mandarin is an advantage.
  • Preferably with First Aid and HK Pleasure Vessel Operator Grade 2 Qualification.
