British Rowing Masters Championships – Safety Advisor (Volunteer)
British Rowing is looking to appoint a Rowing Safety Advisor for the British Rowing Masters Championships which takes place annually in June.
The Opportunity
During 2024, a major overhaul of the safety policies and processes at British Rowing Championships was carried out, standardising them across the various competitions.
The individual will work closely with the British Rowing Events Manager and Coordinator, and with the British Rowing Masters Championships Organising Committee (OC) to ensure that the procedures are carried out, and shall advise the OC, taking account of the guidance in RowSafe.
The Safety Adviser shall be responsible for reviewing the Competition Safety Plan together with associated risk assessments and Event Emergency Response Plan in compliance with the guidance in RowSafe.
In advance of the competitions, the Safety Advisor will liaise with the British Rowing Honorary Water Safety Advisor where applicable.
During the competition, the Safety Advisor will be present at the venue, and will advise the OC to help ensure that racing takes place in safe conditions.
The Individual
Whilst no formal qualifications are required, it is expected that the individual will have a good understanding of the sport of rowing and the associated risks. Experience of undertaking a water safety advisor role at a club or competition would be beneficial, and this role provides an excellent opportunity for an individual wishing to gain experience of a national level competition.
Expenses
Although this is a voluntary role, reasonable expenses will be paid as per the British Rowing expenses policy, and accommodation will be provided during the event.
