Scottish Rowing – Pathways Manager
Scottish Rowing is the Governing Body for rowing in Scotland. Our vision is a successful and thriving rowing community and our mission is to support and empower people in Scotland to enjoy rowing and achieve their potential.
This is a national role whose purpose is to widen access to and improve retention in rowing by strengthening existing pathways and developing new pathways for the sport.
This role will suit an ambitious sports development professional who has strong partnership working skills and an ability to engage with a range of stakeholders. A good understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by amateur sports clubs is essential.
Success in this role, as part of the Pathways Development Team, will ultimately see more people from all backgrounds participating in rowing through growth in club membership and other rowing activities.
Job Description
The Pathways Manager will report to the Head of Performance and Pathways and will be responsible for developing positive relationships with key partners including:
- Scottish Rowing member clubs.
- Sportscotland.
- British Rowing.
- Schools and universities.
- Scottish Disability Sport (SDS)
- Scottish Student Sport (SSS)
- Local authorities.
Key Responsibilities:
Working as part of the Pathways Development Team to produce, deliver and evaluate the development priorities within the Scottish Rowing Strategic Plan, with the objective of attracting and retaining participants into rowing.
The priorities will focus on:
1) Understanding our current participant groups and where we have gaps in provision / opportunities to do more for a particular group, with the aim of attracting and retaining participants.
2) Driving forward initiatives (that the Pathways Manager will lead and deliver on) that support the development of rowing where growth opportunities exist including:
- Disability rowing
- Masters rowing
- Student rowing
- Schools Indoor rowing
- Coastal rowing
3) Developing the range of activities offered by Scottish Rowing and member clubs to attract and retain members such as:
- Camps
- Challenges
- Events
- Badges/proficiency programmes
- Conferences and networking events
- Indoor rowing resources for schools
Work with the Competition and Events Manager and Workforce Manager to provide opportunities for people to try coastal sculling and develop skills, whether as a rower, coach, umpire or volunteer.
Work with the Head of Performance and Pathways to develop a set of KPIs / measures to track impact or success of initiatives.
Ensure all Pathways activities are delivered within budget and seek additional sources of funding for activities where appropriate.
Work collaboratively as part of the Pathways Development Team and support the Senior Management Team and other colleagues with the wider delivery of the Scottish Rowing Strategic Plan.
Produce updates and reports where appropriate for the Head of Performance and Pathways and the Chief Operating Officer.
Promote a positive image of Scottish Rowing at all times and work with the Sports Programme Co-Ordinator to ensure that regular Pathway updates and successes are communicated via the Scottish Rowing website and social media channels.
Promote a positive, collaborative, and supportive team culture which prioritises and supports good health and wellbeing.
Any other reasonable task that may be required by Scottish Rowing.

Salary: £27,000
Type: Full-time, fixed term until end of March 2025 with the intention being to extend subject to funding.
