Stowe School – Rowing Coach

Stowe School has an exciting opportunity to appoint a full time rowing coach. We are looking for team players who are equally committed to participation as well as performance in sport and have the ability to engage and motivate students with a love of sport and exercise. The role will be varied, but main focus will be to support our Head of Rowing with the development of our rowers by developing their skills, fitness and understanding of the sport.

There is an opportunity to engage in the wider aspects of life at a busy and thriving co-educational boarding school. The contract will be for two years with full board and lodging. There will be an opportunity to either study part time or get involved in an academic department.

The school is set in a stunning landscape and the boat club benefits from the following facilities:

  • On-site 11 Acre Lake, a good facility for developing young single scullers
  • On-site Boathouse built in 2010, an elegant oak-framed building, in keeping with its National Trust setting. Outside racking for up to 5 eights.
  • Access to Great Moore reservoir, about 800m circular, where continuous rowing is possible. Approx. 20 minutes from Stowe by minibus.
  • 10 Concept 2 Ergometers. A well equipped performance gym.
  • Racing boats (3 8s, 3 4x-, 2 4x+, 1 4+, 4 2x, about 10 1x).  Additional training boats. 2 coaching boats and 2 outboards. Trailer capable of carrying up to 4 eights. Shared towing vehicle. School fleet minibuses.

Each term about 4 competitions are planned. Preparation for, and helping with all aspects of running these full-day events is the primary function of the role

Training is 5 afternoon sessions per week, normally 3:30-5:00pm.

Practical help with the maintenance and repair of boats and equipment expected.

Main competition aims for boys and girls are the Schools’ Head and Dorney Sculling Head in March, and Henley Women’s Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta Qualifying Races in June.

The ability to coach another sport in the summer term would be advantageous.

Full board will be provided, accommodation may considered if available.
