Team Keane Sculling School – J13 & J14 Squad Coach

Team Keane Sculling School is a highly successful grassroots community rowing club giving access to the sport of rowing to both adults and Juniors in the wider community.

As a registered charity we support access to rowing, ensuring everyone no matter what their socio, economic background has the opportunity & support to be able to access the sport and to progress within a supportive and holistic coaching framework to achieve their goals.

Our success has been built on our strong & successful relationships with our local schools through our curricular & extra curricular programs as well as our progressive club pathway for athlete development all the way from learn to row through to our nationally competitive racing squad. We have grown year on year based on our member experience, referrals and reputation which for the large part is due to the amazing coaching team who deliver our programs.

We are a completely inclusive club and encourage participation with both adults and juniors, providing a quality experience for every member supporting them to develop their skills & working towards their goals.

Newly relocated in Brentford, West London we are now providing direct access to one of the the most beautiful stretches of the Tidal Thames, flanked either side by Kew Gardens and Syon Park it really is some of the best stretches of water that the Tidal Thames has to offer!

Team Keane is excited & proud to be ideally located to be able to provide access rowing & watersports to a diverse and exciting community and we are looking for key personnel to become part of our Successful Coaching team as we move into this exciting new chapter for the club.

Team Keane seeks to appoint a coach with previous experience coaching at a Junior Level. This is an exciting opportunity to join a committed and determined coaching team with a club that will support & encourage your development as a Rowing Coach with opportunities to progress within the club.

We welcome both experienced coaches to join our team as well as those who want to take that step from a rower/sculler into coaching. You just need to have a love for the sport and what it can do to motivate and inspire with a passion to share this with the community enabling as many people as possible to benefit from it.

As a coach with Team Keane you have a direct impact on the club and our members, you along with our other coaches become the face of the club & are responsible for delivering professional, safe, enjoyable and progressive sessions on the water for all our participants.

Key Responsibilities

In partnership with the Head Junior Squad Coach, design & deliver a structured development training plan for the racing season for the junior Racing Squad.

  • Plan & manage racing entries and logistics for racing fixtures both regional and national throughout the racing Season.
  • Athlete management, attendance and development of athletes.
  • Manage & coordinate assisting & casual Coaches working with you to deliver your squad training plan.
  • Ensure coaching quality standards are maintained for all delivered sessions.
  • Ensure that Safeguarding and RowSafe policies are always adhered to.

Essential Skills and experience

  • Experience of Squad training and racing either personal experience or as a coach.
  • Previous experience in coaching Juniors in age groups and racing junior crews.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Enthusiastic and committed approach to Coaching.
  • Ability to work with your own initiative.
  • Ability to work within a Team environment.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Positive and friendly disposition.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Resilient, determined, professional, friendly and resourceful, evidencing creativity and innovation.
  • Able to safely manage & deliver sessions both on & off the water.

Additional Skills and Experience

These are not essential, but you will be required to actively engage in achieving these upon appointment with Team Keane and we will help you to gain these accreditations ASAP.

  • RYA Level 2 coastal powerboat award.
  • 1st Aid Certified.
  • Current Child welfare and Safeguarding training.
  • British Rowing Level 2 Rowing Coaching Award.
  • Tideway Coaches Endorsement.

Salary will be up to £20 per hour, dependent on skills, qualifications and experience. Hours of work, Saturday & Sunday from 11:30-16:00.
