The 1863 Club – Part Time coach – Juniors

The 1863 Club are seeking to recruit an additional part-time coach to assist our existing team throughout the week and weekends. The role is to help with the coaching of our growing junior club across all squads.

Over the last few years, the club has developed into a progressive programme catering to an inclusive yet competitive ethos supporting and giving opportunities for boys between J14-J18 and girls from J17-J18. We are based in Chiswick, London. Most of the squads race at regattas both locally and nationally.

We are seeking a coach to help develop juniors alongside cohesively working with our existing team under the direction of our Head of Rowing and Co-Captains. There is flexibility with exact hours depending on the candidate but the role could potentially be for 2-3 sessions a week working with other coaches or up to 20 hours a week playing a more prominent role in a squad and the rowers’ development.

We encourage candidates who have experience working with junior age rowers or a graduate that may be looking for their first steps into coaching. Hence a British Rowing Level 2 coaching award and RYA Powerboat 2 are desirable but we will consider those without if they work to complete over the course of the next few months. We may support candidates without these qualifications depending on the person. If you interested in coaching, in either capacity as detailed above then get in contact with us below.

Why coach at the 1863 Club?

  • We offer a fun, less formal structure than other programmes allowing a potential coach to work with all age groups and not just J14 and J15s. Therefore the scope to add value depending on your interest is valued
  • The option to gain qualifications alongside your coaching as detailed above
  • Be given responsibility for a crew or group, depending on your interest and time, helping them with technique and training to prepare them to compete
  • The option to continue rowing yourself (if you wish to do so) while also balancing coaching and developing others
  • Competitively paid depending on experience.

To apply or discuss the role please contact us for a chat where you can ask further questions or simply email your CV/coaching experience to [email protected]

The club is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all coaches and staff to share this commitment.
