The King’s School Canterbury – Head of Rowing
The Head of Rowing will take on the role of Head Coach and will be expected to lead and manage the Boat Club.
The successful candidate would be expected to work closely with the Director of Sport to ensure that we create a rowing programme that caters for pupils of all abilities and that will not just persuade our pupils to opt for rowing, but which will also achieve success with the school’s top crews.
A key task is the preparation and implementation of a coherent training plan and philosophy. It is envisaged that the Head Coach will personally coach all members of the boat club at some stage, but the focus will naturally fall on the top boats. Attracting the best pupils into the school, ensuring the highest standards of coaching for all pupils and developing positive links with other centres of excellence, both within the sport and more generally, are considered to be some important aspects of this process and we would welcome initiatives in relation to these. The efficient management of the usual administrative tasks concerning regatta entries, boats and equipment, budgets, Health and Safety, transport and other related matters is expected.
The Head Coach is responsible for seeing that the British Rowing Water Safety Code is adhered to by all members of the boat club. A working knowledge of the Code is essential. The Head Coach will be the Safety Officer as defined in the Water Safety Code. The successful candidate will have a strong sporting background, with proven experience and expertise in the coaching, management and administration of rowing: the school is committed to achieving success and is looking for someone with charisma, enthusiasm and ambition.
There are, additionally, many opportunities for further involvement in the wider pastoral and co-curricular life of this large boarding school. An ability to teach an academic subject may be an advantage.
