Tyne ARC – Tyne Youth Rowing Coach (Part-time)
Tyne ARC is looking for part-time coaches to join our Tyne Youth Rowing (TYR) team. TYR is a new sporting initiative looking to enable young people from local schools, in receipt of pupil premium funding, to participate in the sport of rowing.
The TYR programme is continuing to grow this year in 2024, and we need another coach to join the team. Each school project is about 35 weeks long and is based at Tyne ARC. Each school completes one 2-hour session per week. There will be a maximum of 10 participants per school group, with a school staff member present at all sessions. We are looking for part-time coach.
As a collaborative team sport, we want to help participants develop essential life skills, including leadership (confidence), teamwork, and self-discipline. At TYR, weare keen for rowing to be accessible to all, regardless of gender, sexuality, background, ability or location.
Our programme is supported by Henley Royal Regatta Charitable Trust, Love Rowing, and St Nicolas Trust and will be run with collaboration from Northumbria University, who will be working to monitor the programme.
We are looking for passionate coaches who can work positively with young people who may have no experience or knowledge of rowing. You will need to be enthusiastic about the programme’s ambitions and empathise with the students who are taking part.
Responsible to: Tyne Youth Rowing Project Group
Purpose: To coach TYR participants (5:1 participant-to-coach ratio) and deliver a planned programme during weekly sessions at Tyne ARC. The post holder will work under the guidance of the Tyne Youth Rowing Project Group.
Standard week: Coaching will be divided into 2-hour sessions throughout the week, and session timings may vary depending on schools’ timetable constraints.

Location: Tyne Amateur Rowing Club, Water Row, Newburn, Newcastle upon Tyne NE15 8NL
RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS:
- Ensure the safety and welfare of participants, liaise with the TYR Project Group and school leads where required.
- Provide regular reports/updates to the TYR Project Group regarding project progression.
- Liaise with the Vice-Captain of Boats to uphold the safety requirements of equipment and assets.
- Liaise with the Vice-Captain of Boats to ensure all boats and equipment are maintained and fit for purpose for every outing.
- Liaise with Tyne ARC’s Safety Officer and Welfare Officer where required.
- Attend regular meetings with TYR Project Group and Tyne ARC staff/volunteers where required.
- Collaborate with Northumbria University staff where applicable.
- Work proactively with, and encourage all TYR participants.
- Promote a positive, inclusive, supportive and welcoming environment at TYR.
