Tyne United Rowing Club – Head Coach

Tyne United Rowing Club (TURC) is a vibrant and growing community of rowers who like to develop, socialise and make the most out of our club situated by one of the most famous rivers in England. We are now looking to enhance our rowing activities and are excited to find a passionate and dedicated individual to lead the coaching of our adult (mainly Masters) rowing squads and extend the vision to our Juniors coaches as well. This is a fantastic opportunity for the right person to make a significant impact on our club’s future and the development of our rowers.

As the Head Coach, your key responsibilities would be:

  • Develop and implement overarching training plans for our adult squads to guide them across the year.
  • Create detailed 2-3-month training plans for crews with specific competition goals.
  • Set objectives for training sessions and oversee their delivery by yourself and other coaches (both paid and volunteer).
  • Collaborate and liaise with lead coaches of Junior and Daytime weekday sessions to ensure a consistent coaching approach.

You would join as self-employed with a minimum of 15 paid coaching hours per week, with potential to increase to 20 hours, at £17/hour. There is potential for the role to evolve into a full-time position based on your capacity and ambition. What we’re looking for:

  • A confident and well communicating, people skilled coach that enjoys developing rowers of different abilities and needs.

To qualify for the role, you need to have or work towards:

  • Preferably, a UKCC Level 2 Coaching in Rowing certificate.
  • Ability to coach water sessions from a launch. If you do not have an RYA Level 2 powerboat certificate, you will be required to obtain one.
  • Self-employed status with HMRC registration and valid British Rowing membership for insurance purposes.
  • Valid First Aid certificate and completed DBS check.

Salary: £17 per hour

Type: Minimum 15 hours per week with potential to increase to 20 hours per week
