University College London Boat Club – Men’s Lead Coach

University College London Boat Club seeks an experienced coach to join our coaching team, primarily to design and lead our men’s programme, leading coaching of the senior and novice men’s squads.

We seek to hire a joint Lead Coach to our boat club, with the intention that they would lead the men’s side of the club (both novices and seniors).
We are a happy and successful university boat club, situated in London, and we spread our training between UCL Campus (Bloomsbury) and the University of London Boathouse in Chiswick.

We are the most successful University of London college boat club, achieving a clean sweep at Varsity against King’s College London this year. We participate in many major races throughout the racing year, from tideway heads like the Fours Head, Quintin Head and WEHORR/HORR, to BUCS events including BUCS Head (Newcastle) and BUCS Regatta (Nottingham).

We have a large and thriving membership, sending 50 athletes to each BUCS event this year and fielding crews at external summer races such as Met Regatta, Reading Regatta and Henley Royal/Henley Women’s.

The Role

The successful candidate will lead the design and delivery of a season programme to the senior and novice male members of UCLBC. They will work with other coaches and squad captains to set land and water training plans, as well as select crews.

The successful candidate will attend and coach at both senior and novice sessions, which occur primarily on Monday and Thursday evenings, and Saturday mornings for seniors, and Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons for novices. Training times and schedule to be discussed/negotiated during interview and offer stages.

  • Enthusiasm for coaching and for athlete and squad development.
  • Ability to manage a range of fitness levels and technical abilities.
