West Australian Rowing Club – Head Rowing Coach
Full Time Head Coach of leading Rowing Club in Australia
Westies has a proud history of rowing success. Westies athletes regularly perform on the international arena with three athletes representing Australia in the most recent World Championships. We have a dedicated High-Performance coach whose role it is to nurture and develop athletes in preparation for the step-up to international class rowing and we have a strong partnership with the West Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS).
However, Westies wants to go further and enhance both its High-Performance rowing capability but also grow membership and success across all facets of the club. It is therefore looking for a Head Coach, to work alongside its High-Performance coach to:
- Coach crews of all standards in the racing season but with particular emphasis on its High Performance and Development squad members. We have specific strategic goals regarding the Pennant and Nationals season which would form the basis of the coaching schedule for the Head Coach;
- Build on our pre-existing schools programme with Perth Modern School and Mercedes College and both develop these as well as look for new opportunities with other schools. The aim being to create a pipeline of athletes and members into the club both for our High-Performance squads and also Clubbie squads;
- Support and nurture the development of coaching and coxing within the club. We have a strong cadre of volunteer and casual coaches, and we are keen to see these coaches led to be the best of their ability;
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the shed and squad management; working with the Committee on property maintenance issues and ensuring a well-run shed. Also ensure (with the Captain and Vice-Captains) well prepared regattas particularly those which Westies host;
- Lead on boat maintenance and repair, working with our pre-existing suppliers to ensure maximum availability of boats and equipment at all times; and
- Work with the committee on ad-hoc projects and opportunities to develop the club, including being an active member of the Committee and contributing to the strategic direction of the Club.
First and foremost do reach out to either Tyler Clement (Captain) or Jonno Ware (President) if you have any questions about this role and your application. We feel it is important you have the chance to talk to us and get more of a feel about what we are looking for.
And then apply! By providing a two page covering letter that address the essential characteristics we are looking for alongside your rowing CV (as well as any other experience you have that you feel is relevant).
