Juniors hone gig-rowing skills in Cornwall

Junior rowers from across Devon and Cornwall gathered to hone their skills last weekend (April 14/15) at the Western Regional Rowing Council’s junior training camp.

The camp – held at Stithians Watersports Centre, Cornwall – gave the juniors an opportunity to show off their gig rowing skills in a number of different challenges.

Attendees at the camp were also able try out fixed-seat rowing in smaller skiffs provided by Coverack Gig Club, which proved to be a huge hit.

Greenbank Rowing Club’s coastal fours and single sculls ensured that the juniors were also able to have a go at sliding seat rowing for the first time.

The weekend-long camp showed the real potential of junior rowers in the Western Region, with an emphasis on fun, friendly, traditional rowing.
