Aberdeen set for fierce varsity clash

At 2.45pm tomorrow (Saturday 10th), Aberdeen and Robert Gordon (RGU) Universities will take to the water to contest the longest-running rowing race in Scotland.

Widely regarded as one of the North East’s greatest sporting challenges, the Aberdeen Asset Management Universities’ Boat Race is now in its 17th year – attracting thousands of spectators to the banks of the River Dee.

Katie McPherson will be leading an Aberdeen crew seeking its 15th win from 17 races this year, but Ruth Wright’s RGU have no intention of rolling over.

‘This year we are going for a course record,’ said Wright. ‘We go into the race as underdogs so there is no pressure. We just have to try our hardest.

Events get underway on the River Dee at 12.35 on Saturday, with the main race scheduled for 2.45pm.
